CUDDALORE: With the byelection for vacant posts in local bodies scheduled for Thursday, 14 candidates have been declared elected unopposed to various panchayat wards. An official release said that in Cuddalore district 33 panchayat wards fell vacant. Of those who had filed their nominations, 14 had been elected unopposed and for the remaining posts, 35 candidates were in the fray. For ward No.11 in Parangipettai panchayat union being contested on party basis, seven candidates were in the field: one each from the DMK, the CPI and the DMDK, and four Independents.

The voters at Keelakuppam panchayat ward in Panruti taluk would have to elect three members, while those in Arangamanlgam in Kurinjipadi would have to elect two members to each.

The counting of votes will be on February 9.
