The district recorded an impressive pass percentage of 90.72, up by 5.32 per cent over the last year’s performance, in the SSLC exams the results of which were declared on Friday. The district students shared the State second and third positions with their superlative showing.

A total of 14,003 students comprising 6,864 girls and 7,139 boys appeared for the exams from the district. Of them 12,704 candidates, 6,324 boys and 6,380 girls have come out successful. Last year, the pass percentage was 85.40, sources in the Department of School Education indicated.

A. Kirubha Shankar of PA Vidya Bhavan HSS, Thalapatti, led the roll of honour securing 497 out of 500 to walk away with the top position in the district. Incidentally, Kirubha Shankar shared the State second aggregate with a few others from various districts.

Five students shared the district second rank scoring a total of 496 marks that incidentally happened to be the State third position as well. K. Akalya of Bharani Park Matric HSS, N. Jeevananth and V.R. Krishna Gapileswar of PA Vidya Bhavan, S. Logeshwaran of Cheran Matric HSS, Vennamalai, and K. Punitha of Arumugham Academy Matric HSS, Aravakurichi, all tallied 496 marks to share the honours.

Four students from Cheran Matric HSS, Vennamalai, scored 495 marks each to share the district third spot with three others from as many schools in the district. V. Divya, K. Priyatharshini, T. Subashini and K. Vivek, all from Cheran Matric along with K.J. Kamali of Venus Matric HSS, K. Manesha of Bharani Park Matric HSS and P. Raghunath of St. Antony’s Matric HSS, Andankoil, scored 495 each to share the third spot on the podium.

The district saw 1,268 centums in the subjects with English getting 15 centums, Mathematics 470, Science 577, and Social Science 206 centums in all. In all 74 of the 176 schools from the district ensured that all their students came out successfully. Of them Matriculation schools were 39, 18 were government schools, eight came under the self financing category, six aided schools besides three schools run under the aegis of the Adi Dravida Welfare Department.

Among the government schools, A. Sahana of Government Girls HSS, Kulithalai, and A. Gowthami of GHSS, Pugalur, secured 494 marks out of 500 to share the top honours.

P. Vasuki of Government Girls HSS, Vangal, secured 492 marks to become the runner up followed by A. Sarmila of Government Girls HSS, Kulithalai, who got 489 marks to corner the district third position among government schools.

Among the Municipal Schools category, S. Sowbarniga of Pasupatheeswara Municipal Girls HSS, Karur, scored 483 marks to grab the top spot and was followed by her schoolmates V. Thenmozhi who got 482 and R. Jayapratha who secured 479 marks.

Students of the Adi Dravida Welfare schools performed creditably this year with P. Vanmathi of Government ADW HSS, Punnam, scoring 478 marks to take the pole position followed by S. Sangeetha of the same school who got 472 marks and S. Parivarthini of Government ADW HSS, Kottaimedu, who secured 468 marks to take the third spot behind them.
