DHARMAPURI: Freedom fighter Subramaniya Siva’s 125th birth anniversary was celebrated at Paparapatti here on Tuesday. Subramaniya Siva lived in Paparapatti for about two years and seven months before he died.
K. Kumari Ananthan, chairman, State Palm Development Board, placed a wreath on his memorial on Tuesday.
The function was organised by the Dharmapuri District Lions Club. D.N.V. Selvaraj, the former District Governor of the Lions Club told The Hindu that a decision has been taken to ask the State government to build a memorial at the site where Subramaniya Siva’s body was cremated.
A committee has been formed for the purpose and it is in the process of writing letters to all panchayats in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts to pass a resolution asking the State Government to build a memorial, Mr. Selvaraj added. MLAs and MPs from the two districts will be asked to support the initiative and write to the Chief Minister. Former Minister Mullaivendhan, Meganathan, MLA, former Member of Legislative Council Muthusamy participated in the function.
