Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered the construction of 121 more bridges at a cost of Rs. 235 crore in 27 districts across the State to improve road infrastructure.

She had already sanctioned Rs. 2,264 crore for road infrastructure development under the integrated scheme. As bridges across rivers and water bodies are crucial links in the road infrastructure to streamline traffic and facilitate growth in hinterland, Ms. Jayalalithaa has announced 121 more bridges.

Dindigul district will have 20 more bridges to be built at a cost of Rs. 19.72 crore; 11 more bridges will be constructed in Pudukkottai district at Rs. 8.62 crore; 8 bridges will be built in Salem district at a cost of Rs 31.91 crore and Nagapattinam district will have 7 more bridges costing Rs. 9.54 crore.

Tiruchi district will get six bridges; Tirunelveli, Sivagangai, Dharmapuri, Erode and Tirupur districts will get five bridges; four more bridges will be built in Cuddalore, Namakkal and Coimbatore districts, according to an official release. Last year, the government had sanctioned Rs. 3,793 crore for new roads, railway overbridges and for maintenance of existing bridges.
