It was being transported from Puducherry to Karnataka
Twelve tonnes of rice meant for Public Distribution System was seized near Shoolagiri in Krishnagiri district on Thursday.
G. Raju, Inspector, Civil Supplies CID wing, told The Hindu that on the basis of an information received by P. Rathinavelu, District Supply Officer, a flying squad team consisting of Special Revenue Inspectors M. Satyanarananan, Ilangovan, and Parthiban conducted a surprise vehicle check up near Shoolagiri.
The officials intercepted a lorry near Shoolagiri on Krishnagiri-Bangalore National Highway. It was found that 240 bags of rice were found wrapped with tarpaulin cover.
Lorry driver Amir John and cleaner Pandiselvam were arrested. They confessed to the police that they were transporting the rice from Puducherry to Karnataka. Both of them were produced before Judicial Magistrate V. Sundarrajan in Krishnagiri and were remanded to judicial custody for 15 days and lodged in Hosur sub-jail.
Cases have been registered under sections 6 (4) of TNSC, RDGS (order 1982).
