Gearing up on the security front for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the city police has identified critical areas and mapped 118 places falling within its jurisdiction that required a “little more” protection, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav said on Friday.

The police would formulate the comprehensive security scheme for Tiruchi accordingly and take all preventive steps to ensure that there was no disturbance to law and order before and after the elections, Mr. Yadav told reporters at the city police office here.

The 118 places that required more protection were identified based on past incidents , Mr. Yadav said. Stating that the police were ready for the elections, the Commissioner said the quantum of police strength required for every polling station falling within the city limits were worked out. The city alone accounts for 654 polling stations. There were eight flying squads and equal number of static surveillance teams working within the city limits covering Tiruchi West and Tiruchi East assembly constituencies besides part of Tiruverambur.
