MADURAI: Madurai Tamil Isai Sangam will organise the 33rd Tamil Isai Vizha at Raja Muthiah Mandram here from March 6 to 15.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, managing trustee R. Sekkappa Chettiar said the Sangam had been conferring ‘Muthamizh Peraringar’ award on scholars who had contributed to Tamil literature, music and theatre, since 1995. For 2008, the title would be conferred on Tamil poet AR. Somasundaram. The award would carry a cash prize of Rs.15, 000, a gold medal and a citation.
Awards would also be given away to three upcoming artistes, besides providing space for them to exhibit their skills before a learned audience, he said.
Some of the recipients of the award include theatre personality R.S. Manohar (1996), singer Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram (1997), clarinet expert A.K.C. Natarajan (1999), spiritual leader Kundrakudi Ponnambala Desigar (2000), violin maestro Lalgudi Jeyaraman (2004), Bombay Sisters C. Saroja and C. Lalitha (2005) and flute maestro N. Ramani (2006).
The 10-day music festival will feature music programmes, Bharathanatyam and ‘patti mandram.’
