PUDUKOTTAI: As many as 103 weak overhead tanks in the district would be demolished and new ones constructed during the current financial year at an expenditure of Rs. 2.60 crore, Union Minister of State for Forests and Environment S. Regupathy said.

Presiding over the ‘Awareness and Vigilance Committee’ meeting held here on Wednesday, the Minister said that these overhead tanks were dilapidated, necessitating immediate re-construction.

The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board would take up the work shortly, he said.

Reviews schemes

The Minister, who reviewed the on-going schemes in the district, said that as many as 1,897 houses would be constructed under the ‘Indira Awaaz Yojana’ scheme during the current financial year. This apart, another 492 ‘kutcha’ houses would be improved.

Fast execution

He appealed to the officials to ensure execution of the various rural development works and other schemes without any delay. Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar was present.
