Nearly 100 students from 10 different colleges in the district participated in the painting and photography competition held in connection with National Tourism Day and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Foundation day on Wednesday.

The competition was jointly organised by INTACH, Thanjavur Chapter, Kalai Aayam, a cultural organisation, and Periyar Maniyammai University (PMU).

S.G. Vidyasankar Sthapathy, former principal, Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kumbakonam, acted as the judge and selected the winners.

J. Robin Israel (III B.Sc. visual communication) of Bharath College of Science and Management, Thanjavur, and C. Raghu (III BFA) of Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kumbakonam, were selected as the first and the second respectively in the painting category.

R. Jeeva (III B.Arch) of Periyar Maniyammai University, Vallam, and H. Mohamed Javeed (III B.Sc. visual communication) of Bharath College of Science and Management, Thanjavur, were selected as the first and the second respectively in the photography category.

Prizes were given to the winners. Certificates were distributed to all the participants.

V.Varadarajan, executive committee member, INTACH, presided over the art awareness campaign held after the competition.

Art critic Dhenuga delivered a lecture.
