TIRUCHI: Intensive night rounds, vehicle and lodge checks conducted by the police in the last one month resulted in the arrest of 10 rowdies and 43 absconding persons against whom non-bailable warrants had been pending.
The checks were conducted following instructions from the Commissioner of Police A. Alexander Mohan.
According to a release issued on Sunday the checks were conducted in view of the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Over 175 persons were booked under various provisions of Security Act and 10 were arrested on the charge of selling illicit arrack.
A total of 8,683 cases were booked during vehicle checks of which 427 were drunken driving cases.
The release further said 144 code violation cases had been registered against political parties.
