After post-mortem examination, the body has been handed over to his parents

BHUBANESWAR: A youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a city hotel on Thursday.

The body, identified as that of Ajay Sahoo, 26, was lying on a bed and his throat was slit by some sharp weapons. The city police were clueless about the unidentified assailant, who committed the act in room No 16 of the hotel.

The police, who registered a case of murder, are questioning a person who shared the room with the victim. After post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to parents of the victim.

"We received a call from the hotel staff that a body was lying on a bed. We conducted a scientific verification as well as spot examination by sniffer dogs," Inspector-in-charge Harihara Dora said.

He said both Das and Sahoo knew each other before and they had made a round in the city before entering the hotel at around 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday. While Sahoo, hailing from Deogarh, was a cost accountant, Das, a resident of Nayagarh district, was said to be an influential middleman in the corridor of power.

The primary investigation carried out by the police said they met at New Delhi last year and had regular contacts afterwards. The victim was staying with a friend on Utkal University campus.

The police seized a bloodstained blade and two mobile phones from the spot. The police also took driver of the car used by them into custody for questioning.
