Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was observed peacefully at several places in Cuttack, including that of the Chandini Chowk Rath yatra The district authorities however, rendered all possible help to the Chandini Chowk Jagannath temple management after the Supreme Court order passed earlier this week.

A Division Bench of the Apex Court had directed the Cuttack district Collector to render all possible assistance in respect of the Rath Yatra, after the management agreed to give an undertaking to remove the Gundicha Temple and other temples located in the premises near Belle View on the bank of theriver Kathajodi. Meanwhile, lakhs thronged to witness the Rath Yatra held elsewhere in the city on the day. The celebrations went off peacefully at Dolamundai, Shankarpur and Raghunathjew temples.

In view of the current volatile law and order situation prevailing in the city, the Cuttack city police made elaborate arrangements for the Rath Yatra. A senior police officer of the city informed that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city as the festival was observed peacefully across the city.

The local police made special arrangements for smooth movement of traffic where heavy crowd was expected. After the necessary rituals were performed in the morning, pulling of chariots began as planned at every temple, including that of the Dolmundai Jagannath temple, where the chariot of Goddess Subhadra was pulled only by women devotees.
