Sitamarhi: In a throwback to medieval brutality, a woman was allegedly gang-raped, tied with a rope and set afire over a land dispute in a village in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district, police said on Monday. Rinki Devi and some members of her family were tied with ropes in their house at Premnagar by local people last night before she was gang-raped and set on fire, Deputy Superintendent of Police N. P. Tripathy said. The marauders also set on fire the house standing on the disputed piece of land. Devan Mahto, Rinki’s father-in-law, had a land dispute with Kamal Mahto, who allegedly with his armed henchmen raided their house and committed the crime. Rinki Devi died on the spot, the DSP said adding the body has been sent for post mortem.
