Md. Sahajad escaped while being produced in the court
Rourkela: An undertrial prisoner escaped from the court premises and was not missed by the police till his wife reported it to the police at Rajgangpur, about 40 km from here.
The prisoner, Mohammed Sahajad (25) arrested for robbery and dacoity, managed to flee from the court premises before being produced in the court yesterday, the police said. He had been brought along with 19 other undertrials in a bus from Sundergarh jail to the court of the judicial magistrate (first class) escorted by nine policemen.
The escape came to light after his wife reported to the police that she did not find her husband in court.
Superintendent of Police, Sundargarh, Narsingh Bhol said a havildar and two constables were suspended on Saturday for dereliction of duty.
The order of suspension was issued to D. Suna, K.S. Nayak and J. Baruah, he said.
Sahajad and 10 other undertrials had earlier escaped from the same court by throwing chilli powder in the eyes of policemen on March 25, 2001.
While nine had been caught subsequently, two others were still at large.
A hunt has been launched to nab the escapee, the sources added. – PTI
