To mark the 20th anniversary of “Ram Shila Pujan”
Lucknow: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will hold special prayers from November 9 to 11 to mark the 20th anniversary of “Ram Shila Pujan” which gave a momentum to the Ram temple movement in the late 1980s.
The three-day special worship would be attended by the VHP brass including its president Ashok Singhal and a dalit devotee from Jharkhand, Kameshwar Chaupal, who had laid the first shila (brick) during the foundation laying of the proposed Ram Temple at the disputed site in November 1989, VHP spokesman Sharad Sharma said on Thursday.
Over three lakh bricks were collected from Ram devotees from all over the state during the movement and its puja-aarti was going on ever since the shilanyas on a daily basis but during the forthcoming three-day programme, special pujas would be undertaken, Mr. Sharma said.
These bricks have been kept at the Kar Sewakpuram along with the carved stone slabs which would form the walls of the proposed Ram temple that the VHP aspires to give shape to at the disputed land . - PTI
