Refresher courses in ICT-Applications, English inaugurated

PUDUCHERRY: With technology becoming an important tool for teaching and learning processes, the Pondicherry University is working on methods of audio and video use for knowledge dissemination to students, Director of Culture and Cultural Relations of the Pondicherry University A. Balasubramanian has said.

Shortly after inaugurating two refresher courses on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-Applications and English, organised by the University Grants Commission-Academic Staff College (ASC) of the university, on Wednesday, he said digital information flow was increasing day by day.

“Today, communication systems are very powerful. There will be new changes and new applications in the field of ICT. You need to develop resources that can be used again and again. Concentrate on re-usable resources,” he told the teachers attending the courses.

Audio, video-based lessons

He noted that the university liked to take up a lot of things in ICT such as audio-based lessons, video-based lessons and computer-based tutorials. Mr. Balasubramanian also highlighted the importance of English language in ICT.

The head of the Department of English, Pondicherry University, N. Natarajan, said that English teachers should make graduates employable, while the head of computer science, G. Aghila, outlined the design of the refresher course in ICT applications. “It will deal with nature of information, management of information and information system strategy,” she said.

Emeritus Professor, University of Namur, Belgium Alain Krief said that there were a lot of ways to communicate.

“One day computers will help us to find new ways to communicate, rather the existing means. Learning is important but I believe more in informal learning,” he said.
