PUDUCHERRY: The Pondicherry University Non-Teaching Staff Welfare Association has decided to launch a series of protests from March 17 to put forward their grievances to the administration.

In a press release, the association requested the administration to take necessary steps to solve the grievances of employees. The association demanded implementation of the One Upward Movement scheme to those who have completed eight years of service and fill up all vacant posts of non-teaching staff 100 per cent by promotion.

They urged the administration to implement a pay scale of Rs. 5,000 to all assistants who were presently receiving Rs. 4,000 as basic pay and upgrade pay scales of office attendant from Rs. 3,050 to Rs. 4,000 for those who have completed 20 years of total service and left without promotion, the release said.

The association asked the administration not to appoint non-teaching staff on contract basis.

They wanted more technical assistant posts to be created and regular staff to be deputed to the Directorate of Distance Education and Community college among other demands, added the release.
