Pondicherry: The District Collector, Pondicherry, G. Theva Needhi Dhas said in a release here on Tuesday that the Geneva-based United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) has sent to the Centre an approved list of untraced claimants in the Union Territory for compensation for the losses suffered during the Iraq-Kuwait war (1990-1991).

He said that the claimants could not, however, be located earlier since they had changed their addresses and did not inform the Special Kuwait Cell (SKC) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in this regard.

The list can be accessed on the MEA's website www.mea.gov.in.

He said that the last date for locating these claimants was September 30, 2006 after which their claims would lapse. Keeping in view the minimum time required for the banks to secure funds from the UNCC, they were advised to ensure their letters, bearing the notation `Untraced Claimants'and intimating their new addresses reached the SKC Division by August 20. Address: Ms. Sarita Bali, Joint Secretary (SKC), Union External Affairs Ministry 9, Bhagwan Das Road, I.S.I.L Building, New Delhi 110 001.
