BHUBANESWAR: The State government has decided to extend free medical facilities to wives of freedom fighters, who laid their lives for independence of the country.

Under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Programme, the freedom fighters are given ‘Swasthya cards’ whereby the cardholder is receiving benefits such as payment of Rs. 200 stipend on one visit to government hospital and free health check-ups. According State Health Minister Prasanna Acharya, wives of freedom fighters could avail the similar facilities like their husbands. They would not have to pay any fee for their stay in cabins of government medical college hospitals up to 60 days.

ASHA worker who would accompany the patient to the hospital are getting an incentive of Rs. 100 . The scheme is applicable to all living freedom fighters and their spouses.
