With the arrest of the two remaining accused in the brutal gang-rape case of the 23-year-old physiotherapy student in a moving bus in the Capital this past Sunday, all six culprits have been accounted for.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Distrcit) Chhaya Sharma, Akshay Thakur was arrested at his home in Aurangabad in Bihar on Friday evening. Another accused, who claimed to be a minor, was arrested in Anand Vihar here on Thursday night. Akshay was arrested by one of the several teams sent by the Delhi Police to look for him.

The police had earlier arrested four others -- Ram Singh, Mukesh, Vinay Sharma and Pawan -- following which a hunt had been launched for the remaining accused.

All the accused face charges of attempt to murder, abduction and gang-rape under various sections of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the incident in which the victim’s male friend had also been assaulted with iron rods before both of them were thrown out of the bus.

Police sources said there were doubts regarding the age of the accused who claimed to be a minor. “We are treating him as a juvenile, but his claims are being verified,” said a senior police official on Friday evening.

He added that the accused has been sent to a juvenile home after being produced at a juvenile justice board.

Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar tweeted on social networking that his age had to be verified before giving out any details. “Fifth accused arrested in the rape case His age being verified before giving details. If minor we hve 2 hold back his particulars as per law,” Mr. Kumar tweeted through his twitter handle @delhipolice2 on Friday morning.

A watch, two mobile phones, an ATM card and burnt clothes of the victim and her male friend have been recovered so far.
