Drive to strengthen retail network
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government's Cooperative Department will open two new mini cooperative supermarkets in Sikar district this week as part of its drive to establish the country's biggest cooperative retail marketing network in the rural areas comprising about 1,200 outlets.
According to Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mukesh Sharma, the new supermarkets will be opened at Palsana and the popular pilgrim centre, Khatu Shyamji. While about 250 supermarkets are presently functioning in the rural areas, their number would go up to 500 by the end of this month.
Mr. Sharma said the new outlets would provide various consumer items to the villagers at competitive prices. The Cooperative Department has also associated itself with the public distribution system in the tribal-dominated regions to supply consumer items, seeds and fertilisers.
