CHANDIGARH: Rich homage was paid on Monday to Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda, former member of the Constituent Assembly of India, on his first death anniversary at “Samvidhan Sthal” in Rohtak in Haryana.

His son, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, met the friends and close associates of his father who had come from many parts of the country.

Noted Gandhian S. N. Subharao said Ranbir Singh had played a vital role in giving a new direction to politics in Haryana. Describing him as a well-wisher of farmers and workers, Mr. Subbarao exhorted the people to follow the path shown by him to create a new social order.

Several speakers recalled that Ranbir Singh had played a major role in the construction of Bhakra Dam. They also recalled his statement in the Constituent Assembly in which he had expressed concern for the farming community. One speaker said that it was due to the efforts of Ranbir Singh that freedom fighters could get pension.
