They demanded check on escalating prices and strengthening of the Public Distribution System
PUDUCHERRY: Trade unions affiliated to the left parties staged protests in various places in Puducherry on Friday demanding control of escalating prices and strengthening of the Public Distribution System.
A release said the unions attached to Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged protests at Ariyankuppam, Bahour, Villianur, Karikalampakkam, Thirukannur, Thirubhuvanai, Kariamanikkam, Puducherry town and Karaikal. The unions also demanded that job security of employees should be ensured while granting financial assistance to sick organisations. Proper implementation of all labour laws and implementation of unorganised labourers and agricultural labourers social security laws with proper amendments were the other demands of the unions, the release added.
