Canning (West Bengal): Villagers and forest officials were at panic stations since Monday morning after a tiger was seen roaming in a village near the Sunderbans.
The officials said locals of Jharkhali village spotted the tiger which must have come from the nearby Herobanga jungle.
They said the tiger might be the same one spotted in the village four days ago. It escaped the trap laid and returned to the forest.
In search of mate
The tiger might be in search of its mate which was trapped in the village and later released in a distant jungle a week ago.
Thousands of tourists, who have come to the area to enjoy the scenic beauty in wintry chill, have been sent back, police said. — PTI
