The Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday suspended three police officers, lodged an FIR against one of them and ordered inquiry against the then DIG of Kanpur in a sexual assault and death case of September last year.

“On the basis of the inquiry report submitted by the Crime Branch-CID, suspension of three police officers has been ordered by Chief Minister Mayawati, besides ordering an inquiry against the then DIG of Kanpur Prem Prakash,” Cabinet Secretary Shashnak Shekhar Singh told reporters here.

Those suspended include Station House Officer of Kalyanpur Anil Kumar, accused of illegal detention and falsification of records; Additional Superintendent of Police Lal Bahadur and Deputy SP L. Mishra, both accused of acting against the provisions of the public conduct rulebook, he said. - PTI
