Three Maoists were arrested from Adbaba police station area in Gajapati district on Saturday night. They were nabbed from Baligudi and Sapalaguda villages on the border of Kandhamal district. The arrested naxalites were Jakhyamutha Majhi, Aphira Badamajhi and Ajit Badamajhi. Three country guns and Maoist literature were seized from them. Ajit and Aphira were residents of Sapalguda, while the other was from Baligudi.
According to Gajapati Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Arora, all of them are in their twenties. They were all involved in several violent activities in Gajapati and adjoining Kandhamal district. Interrogation was on to extract more information from them. One of the arrested youths, Aphira, happens to be a student of chemistry honours of the Khallikote Autonomous College in Berhampur.
As per initial revelations, the three were involved in the attack on the Katingia police outpost in Kandhamal district in July 2009. During the attack, Maoists had destroyed a newly-constructed building on the premises of the police outpost, which was to be used as staff quarters of the personnel of the outpost, ransacked and torched a bike, documents and furniture kept there.
They were also part of the group of naxalites, who had blown up a beat house of the Forest Department at Paniganda village under Adbaba police station in Gajapati district in the same month. Three innocents of Paniganda were also injured by blast of another landmine which was planted in the area by these Maoists.
