Specialist from Kerela performs surgery
Puducherry: A Thrissur-based retired Professor of Veterinary College of Kerala K.C. Panicker rushed to Puducherry to do a minor surgery to remove an abscess from the middle of the tail of the Sri Manakula Vinayakar temple elephant on Thursday.
Warden and Deputy Conservator of Forests P. Devaraj told The Hindu that the 16-year-old elephant was hale and healthy.
The boil (abscess) that had developed on the tail was noticed recently.
The temple authorities had contacted Dr. Panicker on Wednesday to treat the animal. An industrialist donated the elephant Lakshmi to the Vinayakar temple in 1996.
