By the end of 2014, medical centres in every panchayat in the State were expected to have telemedicine facility.

This was stated by the authorities of the Odisha Trust of Technical Education (OTTET) telemedicine during inauguration of telemedicine centres at MKCG medical college and Berhampur city hospital on Thursday.

These telemedicine centres were inaugurated by the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout. As per OTTET authorities, it was expected to have telemedicine centres in every block of Odisha by the end of 2013.

OTTET’s telemedicine network is an integrated health care service delivery model that has been established as a need-based community-centric approach to promote and provide preventive health care and disease management services at the door steps of people.

The telemedicine project is run on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode where the State Government and OTTET were partners in providing this modern health service to the citizens.

As per release of the OTTET, this telemedicine project was expected to generate direct employment for around one lakh youths in the State.

Apart from it would also provide indirect employment to three lakh others.

The OTTET telemedicine network is a network for tele-consultation and tele-education.

Tele-consultation facility include preliminary diagnosis, pre-surgical investigations, post surgical follow-up, scheduling appointments for hospital visits, expert opinion and patient counselling.

This project was expected to provide rural populace access to medical experts at their door steps.

All medical colleges in the State, district headquarters hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHC) and Primary Health Centres (PHC) would be part of this telemedicine network.

This network is connected to super speciality pioneer hospitals in the country like the AIIMS, SGPGIMS and several other major private hospital groups.

Through this project poor patients from inaccessible areas would be able to get diagnosed by eminent physicians of the country through tele-consultation.
