The Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations (CCPA) -- the apex body of planters -- on Friday condemned the gruesome incident at Konapathar tea estate in Assam’s Tinsukia area that led to the death of M.K. Bhattacharjee and his wife.
Indian Tea Association and CCPA Chairman A.N. Singh said in a statement that the incident at Konapathar tea estate has sent shock waves through the tea industry.
The gruesome act of arson is a violation of all norms of civilized society and in complete disregard of available grievance settlement norms, he said.
While the industry is confident that the law should take its own course to identify and book the perpetrators of this act, the tragedy underscores once again the need to strengthen mechanisms so that such incidents never occur again, Mr Singh said.
