District-level task force meeting on dengue preparedness by ZSS and NVBDCP was held at Koraput under the chairmanship of Collector Sachin Jadhav on Friday. While there was no trace of dengue in Koraput till 2009, suddenly a large number of Aedes mosquitoes which were the carrier of dengue were found in 2009 in different parts of the district, S.S.Sahu, chief scientist from VCRC at Koraput said.
Last year after suspecting dengue in one patient, source of the vector was tried to be found.
While finding a large number of Aedes mosquito eggs in open tanks in the backyard of individual houses in Koraput town , the search had lead the team to visit the large water supply tank on the mountain only to find huge quantity of eggs of the mosquito in the tank.
On the advice of the team , NAC , Koraput had cleaned the tank , Dr. Sahu added.
He advised every household to cover their water tanks while keeping the surrounding clean and tidy without allowing water to get collected .
District Collector asked the officials to go for an inter sectoral coordination to prevent the mosquitoes from ruling over the district.
Any epidemic was a great loss to the humanity and Koraput was not an isolated district like before and was not keeping itself immune from the impact of the developing portions of the country which are in the grip of such fever and mosquitoes, he added.
He proposed to conduct special meetings with the urban bodies of the district for maintaining cleanliness. As a measure to prevent the mosquitoes go to rural areas using the people who come to attend car festival in the urban areas as carriers, special spray would be done on the route where the chariot would move to Sri Gundicha temple , he said .
A dengue sentinel site will be made operational very soon at District Headquarter Hospital, Koraput for confirmation of dengue cases using NS1 and JgM . The site will have a technical committee for analysis of data to develop different strategies for prevention of dengue , Dr.Niranjan Das, CDMO, Koraput said .
