Dusshera songs are always a hit in Cuttack city. Frenzied procession parties accompanying the tableaus during the immersion festival dance to the latest Bollywood and Ollywood numbers. But Dusshera songs give a new level of energy to the revellers.

Four new songs

Cuttack, which has a unique tradition of celebrating Durga Puja in grand style, has given birth to new Dusshera songs and they have been instant hits across the State. But after nearly two decades of dry spell, eminent music director and lyricist Swarup Naik has come out with a new Dusshera album this year with four new songs, each penned and composed by himself and sung by versatile singer T Shourie.

While the inclement weather has already threatened to dampen the spirit of Dusshera revelry in Cuttack city, people here are still hopeful of making merry in case the rain gods spare them a bit.

With all preparations now getting the final touch for the six-day Durga Puja beginning Thursday, Swarup Naik released his album called “Ghunchi ja…Bajiba…” earlier this week and the same is catching up with everyone.

Produced under the banner of T Shourie Pvt Ltd, the album has four songs, each equipped with rustic and rugged parlance of Cuttack city, aptly interlaced by Naik. While the first song “Jaya Maa Durga” is based on the solemn hymns in which Goddess Durga is implored to incapacitate all Mahisashuras of the day and protect women, the second song eulogizes Dahi bara, Dusshera, Bali yatra and Bhaichara of Cuttack city.

The third and fourth songs of the album—“Aama Medha Jiba…and Ghunchi ja…” are composed keeping an eye on the energetic youths of the city who accompany their respective tableaus during the colourful immersion of the festival.

The music scored by Naik on each of these songs are truly unique and appropriate to the occasion, which would go a long way to give the proper boost for a tuneful Dusshera in Cuttack.
