Congress undecided on two M.P. seats
MPCC chief likely to be fielded from Hoshangabad Congress names candidates for 27 out of 29 Lok Sabha seats
Bhopal: Suspense continues to surround the candidature of Madhya Pradesh Congress president Suresh Pachouri as the party nominee from the Hoshangabad constituency in the coming Lok Sabha polls. The Congress has so far named its nominees for 27 of the 29 constituencies in the State but it is yet to declare names of candidates for the Satna and Hoshangabad constituencies.
Union Minister Arjun Singh’s daughter Veena Singh is said to be in the race for a ticket from the Satna constituency while Mr. Pachouri himself is expected to contest from the Hoshangabad constituency. The last list of five names was announced on Saturday and this comprised nominees from the Bhopal, Dewas, Indore, Rajgarh and Sidhi constituencies. Following Saturday’s announcement, it has become clear that Arjun Singh’s second son Ajay will not be contesting from the Sidhi constituency although he was in the race for it.
However, sources close to Pachouri said there was no problem with the delay in the announcement of his candidature from the Hoshangabad constituency. They said that barring C. P. Joshi, who is the Rajasthan Congress President, the party has not yet cleared the names of any State Congress President for the Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Joshi had lost last November Assembly elections in Rajasthan by only one vote. The sources said it was possible that Mr. Pachouri’s candidature is declared by Sunday night itself. According to the sources, if Mr. Pachouri is made the candidate from Hoshangabad, an acting president for the State Congress would have to be appointed. --PTI
