Students clear streets littered with plastic items

PUDUCHERRY: Students of National Service Scheme, Community Service Scheme, National Green Corps, Red Cross Society, Scouts and Guides movement of St. Patrick Matric Higher Secondary School cleared plastic items from streets in several areas and distributed pamphlets to the public on the disadvantages of using plastic.

As part of World Public Health Day, the students collected plastic items from areas surrounding the school, including Saradambal Nagar, Thanthai Periyar Nagar, Rathna Nagar, Aaruthra Nagar and Ambal Nagar.

The students also distributed pamphlets to the public on disadvantages of using plastic.

Science exhibition

Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School organised a science exhibition for the academic year on October 18. Students of Class III to XII took part in the exhibition which was inaugurated by Head of Chemistry department of Pondicherry Engineering College S. Subramanian.

Some of the exhibits included rain water detector, logic gates, rectifier sound through laser, charging mobile through air, energy through speed breakers and herbal mosquito repellents. A documentary on Bermuda Triangle, tsunami and WTO crash were part of the exhibition.

Drawing competition

Annai Kalaikoodam, a unit of Annai Educational Academy, conducted a zone-wise inter-school drawing competition for different levels in the school. Several students took part in the competition.

At Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School, the third State-level ranking table tennis championship was held on October 10. Honorary secretary of Puducherry State Table Tennis Association P. Karunakaran inaugurated the tournament. Regional Manager of State Bank of India R. Suresh Johnson gave away prizes to winners on October 12.

A student of Class IX, R. Kriba, won the third prize in the State-level Bhagavad Gita Chanting competition held at St. Patrick Matric Higher Secondary School. Staff of the school N. Subbarayan received the best coordinator award.

The school conducted the sports meet and Teachers Day on September 30. Students took part in various track and field events and sports for teachers were also held. Events such as 100 and 200 metres running, shot put, discus throw, throw ball and tug of war were held.

The prize distribution ceremony was held at the school auditorium. Prize winners received silver medals and a house of the school “Shamrocks” was declared the overall champions.

It was a winning spree for students of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School. A student of Class X R. Vijay Krishnan bagged Sr. Mary Antoinette Rolling Trophy in the State-level ranking table tennis tournament conducted by Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School on October 12. N. Akash Kanna of Class IV emerged winner in the mini cadet boys level and V. Sudarsanan of Class VI won the cadet boys level at the tournament.

Another student K. Lokesh of Class VII emerged as winner in sub-junior boys level, while N. Sakthivel of Class VIII was declared as runner up. In the junior boys level, R. Vijay Krishnan of Class X emerged as winner and D. Amber Bensal of Class XII was the runner-up.
