The Jharkhand People's Party (JPP) has said an agitation to press for “Greater Jharkhand” comprising parts of Jharkhand and its contiguous areas in West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh would begin soon.

“A decision in this regard was taken at a preparation committee meeting held here on Sunday,” JPP president Surya Singh Besra said.

The former MLA said besides Jharkhand, “Greater Jharkhand” should include Bankura, West Midnapore and Purulia districts of West Bengal, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts of Orissa and Sarguja and Raipur districts of Chhattisgarh. He said party leaders will chalk out future course of action during the coming two-day convention to mount pressure on the government to implement it.

He said a delegation of the JPP will meet the President, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister after the convention and submit a memorandum in support of the demand. - PTI
