Thanks to some timely measures by civil supply authorities, the rising price of onion has been brought under control in Cuttack city.

The wholesale price of onion in the biggest vegetable market of the State at Chhatrabazaar here on Tuesday was Rs. 22 per kg and in retail outlets; it was available between Rs. 23 and Rs. 25. Traders believe the price would be further slashed and onion would be available at the old rate of Rs. 20 per kg in next seven days.

“The supply-demand ratio got disturbed last week causing sudden price hike. It was mainly due to fall in harvest at Nasik in Maharashtra, which was the main supplier of the stuff for the Odisha consumers. However, onion availability from another centre in Gujarat has given us some hope,” said President of Chhatrabazaar Byabasaya Sangha Surendra Sahu.
