Bardhan, other leaders to address villagers from different parts

BHUBANESWAR: The stage is now set for a public meeting at Patna Bazaar under Dhinkia gram panchayat of Jagatsinghpur district on Monday afternoon.

The Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti is organising the meeting in protest against the proposed Rs. 51,000-crore steel plant project of Posco-India.

According to Samiti president Abhay Sahoo, the meeting will be attended by thousands of people from different villages under the gram panchayats of Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadakujang where land has been earmarked for the proposed steel plant.

The meeting will be addressed by Communist Party of India general secretary A.B. Bardhan and a host of leaders belonging to different political parties.

The meeting assumes importance as the agitation against the project has gained strength in the recent weeks.

Tension continues

The project opponents have also become more determined to continue their movement against the steel project after the death of one of their men on Saturday.

Meanwhile, tension continued to prevail in the project area as the project supporters were sore over the arrest of 26 persons in connection with the killing of anti-Posco activist Dula Mandal.

According to official sources, the Jagatsinghpur administration was mobilising additional forces to prevent any clashes between the supporters and opponents of the project during the public meeting. Mr. Bardhan and other opposition leaders at a convention held in Bbubaneswar on on Sunday observed a minute silence as mark of respect to the departed soul of Dula Mandal.
