Five prominent persons to be felicitated

BHUBANESWAR: The stage is set for the State-level annual Oriya drama festival at Rabindra Mandap in the capital on Tuesday.

The five-day event is being hosted by the city-based three-decade-old Manana Natya Sanstha with support from Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata, and the State Department of Culture.

Festival director and Manana’s founder Manoj Patnaik said the festival would feature host Manana’s Asustha Aparanha on the inaugural evening followed by Mahayatra by Cuttack-based Samabesa theatre troupe on Wednesday.

Thursday would witness the play Nisiddha Kakshya by Rangashala troupe of Puri, while Rourkela-based Sampark troupe would stage Americaru Ambatota on Friday.

The city-based Rangaloka would present its play Pagala Janatara Bahare during the concluding evening on Saturday, Mr. Patnaik said.

Manana would honour five prominent people this year during the festival for their contribution to Oriya theatre.

They are Ranajit Patnaik, Saileswear Nanda, Sudarsan Pradhan, Jasobanta Narayan Ray and Surya Deo, Mr. Patnaik said and added that eminent film personality Prasant Nanda would be specially felicitated this year for his Oriya film Jianta Bhoota which bagged the National Film Award.
