VISAKHAPATNAM: Students thronged Internet cafes in large numbers and waited for their turn to know the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination, the results of which were released on Wednesday.

The district secured the 11th position in the State, with 80.56 per cent passes. “This is against the State average of 78.86 per cent passes. Visakhapatnam district secured 76.43 per cent passes last year and this year the pass percentage has increased by about 3.5 per cent,” District Education Officer S. Jagannadha Reddy said.

“Though the target was to increase the pass percentage by nine per cent more than last year, the counselling of teachers for promotions and transfers during January and February had led to shortage of subject teachers.
