`It would generate awareness for social transformation'

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil has called upon girl students to play an important role in social reforms and try to stop evils such as female foeticide and dowry. She said the spread of education among girls would bring respect to women and generate awareness for social transformation.

Addressing a function marking the 40th foundation day of Sona Devi Sethia Post-Graduate Girls' College at Sujangarh in Churu district on Tuesday, Ms. Patil said a better deal for women was essential for the progress of the nation .

Bihar Governor R.S. Gavai, addressing the function, said illiteracy among women should be removed to ensure their participation in social and economic realms. The Vice-Chancellors of Jodhpur and Bikaner Universitieswere among those who attended the function.
