Six-member delegation meets Chief Secretary
A six-member delegation of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) met State Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra here on Wednesday and asked the Mamata Government to urge the Centre to speed up the process of releasing funds to the autonomous body.
“The Centre had assured that Rs. 200 crore will be given to the GTA in a three-year period. So far Rs. 65 crore has been released. We asked the State Government to appeal to the Centre on the matter,” Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) general secretary Roshan Giri, who led the delegation, told The Hindu after the meeting.
He also said the progress on handing over charge of the various departments from the State Government to the GTA was tardy.
26 departments handed over
“There are 58 departments that should be transferred to the GTA. So far only 26 departments have been handed over. We demand that the handover of all departments should be completed by the end of the year,” Mr. Giri said.
He said that the issue of withdrawal of criminal cases against leaders of the GJM was also discussed at the meeting. The members of the GTA were sworn in at a ceremony in Darjeeling on August 4 this year.
