Bhopal: The Samajwadi Party on Friday recommended disciplinary action against five of its MLAs in Madhya Pradesh who defied a party diktat and voted in the Presidential election.
“We have recommended disciplinary action against Vanshmani Prasad Verma, Vijay Bahadur Singh Bundela, Arjun Palia, Vikram Singh and Krishna Kumar Singh,” State party president and MLA Narayan Tripathi told reporters here.
The five MLAs went against the party’s decision to abstain from the Presidential election on Thursday, he said.
Though no whip was issued asking the MLAs not to vote, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was of the view that party legislators should abstain, Mr. Tripathi said.
To a query, Mr. Tripathi claimed, “Political and financial motives might have driven the legislators to vote. The Election Commission should scrutinise mobile call records of the Chief Minister, ministers and these legislators.”- PTI
