BHUBANESWAR: Six artists of Orissa have been invited to exhibit their works in a major art exhibition being mounted at the Renaissance Gallerie in Bengaluru commencing on Monday. Significantly, of the nine artists invited for the group show titled VIBGIOR, six are Oriyas.

The artistes from Orissa include painter and illustrator Baladev Maharatha who serves the faculty of fine arts in B.K.College of Art and Craft in the Capital; Nikunja Bihari Das, principal of the Balasore College of Art and Craft; Orissa Modern Art Gallery founder-director and graphic artiste Tarakanta Parida; Bengaluru-based painter Usha Mishra who also curates the show; city-based young and brilliant painter Pradosh Swain and Bengaluru-based sculptor and potter Gyanesh Mishra.

“This would be the first major exhibition of its kind in western India that would familiarize the artists, connoisseurs and buyers with the works of some of Orissa’s best known contemporary artists. We have planned a series of such shows for Bengaluru,” said Usha Mishra.
