BHUBANESWAR: An engineering college student, who was found burning in a mysterious circumstance at Gandhi Institute of Technological Advancement (GITA), on the outskirts of capital city a week ago, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Biswaranjan Malla, a second year of electrical stream in GITA, had received 85 per cent burn injuries and died at Kalinga Hospital, a city-based private nursing home, here.
College authorities had claimed that the student was rescued from third floor as he rolled down through staircase. They had lodged a complaint in this regard at Jatni police station. However, relatives of the student had pointed finger of suspicion, alleging foul play.
City police on Thursday said they would further proceed on the investigation after receiving the postmortem report. The student belonged Salipur area under Cuttack district. He was shuttling between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar everyday.
