BHUBANESWAR: Scholar, researcher, shadow puppetry exponent and cultural activist Gouranga Charan Das was conferred the Sibaram Patra Smruti Samman (memorial honour) here on Tuesday.

The honour has been instituted in memory of late litterateur, publisher and literary organiser Sibaram Patra by Sibaram Patra Foundation set up by Patra’s publisher-daughter Priyambada Patra and artist-son-in-law Ramakanta Samantaray.

It is being presented to a pioneer from the field of literature and culture having significant contribution to the field.

The foundation publishes the manuscript of the awardees every year and accordingly Das’ unpublished anthology of literary essays “Bitarka O Byakshyan” would be published by the foundation soon, announced Priyambada.

Professor Sudarshan Acharya and poet Sailaja Rabi addressed the gathering while Santosh Mishra spoke on the contribution of late Patra.

Poet and critic Kedar Mishra coordinated the session that coincided with the 67th birth anniversary of late Patra.

Sriram Chhaya Natak Gabesana Parishad of Khamar led by Gouranga Das staged shadow puppet show on the occasion.
