BERHAMPUR: Schoolchildren took out a rally in the city on Monday against child labour to mark the `International Child Labour Eradication Day'.
The rally started from the District Labour office at Aska Road and passed through main thoroughfares of the city.
The children raised slogans demanding basic right to study and play.
According to District Labour Officer Namita Das, the rally was organised as part of the effort to make children aware about the pain that children of their age face as child labourers.
"At least some of them would oppose use of children as domestic helps at their own house that is still a major sector for child labour," she said.
Five NGOs of the district working in the field of child labour eradication also took part in the rally.
A public meeting was organised where the resource persons described how without education and proper grooming the child labourers are failing to grow up as proper citizens of the country.
