City-based Film Journalists’ Forum (FJF) has announced to screen Odia classic Sansar at Jayadev Bhawan on Monday evening as part of its series of screening of milestone movies made in Odia.
Made in 1973, it was directed jointly by celebrated cine-couple Goura Ghose and Parbati Ghose who also acted as the lead pair in the film, said FJF founder-member and film historian Surya Deo.
The film was produced by the Department of Health and Family Welfare of Odisha Government, he added.
As it was made by the government, the story was, apparently, on population problem and its control that was the burning social issue of the times, Mr Deo maintained. Yet, the film had enough elements of cinematic excellence, he said.
The two-hour film was shot entirely outdoors in 17 days in a remote village in 1970. Eminent filmmaker and lyricist Sarada Prasanna Naik, brother of Parbati Ghosh, had scripted the story.
While late legendary music director, composer, singer Akshay Mohanty was roped in for the movie, immensely popular singers Pranab Patnaik, Trupti Das and Gita Patnaik sang for the film.
Noted Odissi dance exponent Guru Ramani Ranjan Jena was the choreographer, it was learnt.
