PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of All India Kisan Sabha staged a demonstration on Tuesday to demand additional relief for the farmers affected by rain.
The sabha, in a release, said that in addition to the Central government’s relief fund, the Puducherry government should allot additional relief for the affected farmers. They demanded Rs. 3,000 per acre for crops such as paddy and Rs. 5,000 for sugarcane and plantain.
The farmers demanded installation of electronic weighing machines at the farmers’ regulatory marketing associations and fair price shops. Similar to Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, the farmers said a kg of rice should be sold for Rs. 2 through the PDS.
