Rich tributes were paid to Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, eminent Odissi dance exponent and well-known arts promoter, through a three-day festival of dance and music staged at Rabindra Mandap here coinciding with his second death anniversary. City-based Guru Gangadhar Pradhan Foundation hosted the annual event - the second Guru Gangadhar Pradhan award festival - that concluded on Thursday. The inaugural evening featured Hindustani vocal concert by Mumbai-based young and gifted artiste Nirali Karthik and internationally acclaimed Odissi soloist Sujata Mohapatra.
Similarly, the second evening showcased Cuttack-based budding sitar player Buddhaditya Pradhan, grandson of Guru Gangadhar, and internationally acclaimed Odissi dancer Bijayini Satapathy. Currently the artistic director of the Odissi Gurukul Bijayini was trained at Guru Gangadhar’s famed Odisha Dance Academy for 12 years prior to leaving her home city of Bhubaneswar.
