Similar arrangements are made for the return car festival and sunabesa
BHUBANESWAR: Here is a reason to rejoice for the people across the globe who do not have access to live telecast of the famous car festival of Puri on Friday. Thanks to the Government-owned National Informatics Centre (NIC), they will be watching webcast of this event.
NIC’s Orissa wing Director S.K.Panda informed that in association with the Doordarshan and the Jagannath temple administration, the venture to reach out to all corners of the globe was made possible. “As soon as the telecast of the Rath Yatra comes live on Doordarshan, people having access to internet would be able to watch the proceedings on their monitors,” explained the director and added that the webcast can be watched by logging on to www.jagannath.nic.in, www.rathjatra.nic.in, www.orissa.gov.in and www.tathya.in.
Though Doordarshan and other television channels take utmost care to telecast the festival live for the people in about 144 countries, people in many countries were not able to have access to it and there was in increasing demand from the non-resident-Indians in particular to webcast the event, the official pointed out.
Efforts are on to webcast some of the major and cultural popular events of the State by the Orissa wing of the NIC, it was learnt.
Bhubaneswar Doordarshan and Eenadu Television-Oriya have made elaborate arrangements to telecast the event live on Friday followed by a similar coverage of the return car festival and the sunabesa on July 12 and 13 respectively. Bhubaneswar Doordarshan would air live telecast of the rath yatra with Oriya commentary on DD-1 and DD-6 at 8.30 am with English and Hindi commentaries on DD-National, DD-Bharati and DD-India from 9 am till 2.30 pm. ETV-Oriya would air it from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the channel’s officials informed.
Similarly, the return car festival and sunabesa would be telecast live.
