Chandigarh: A 12-year-old alleged rape victim, who was forced to leave the school, was here on Wednesday allowed by the authorities to sit for the examinations after she sent a legal notice to the school. The girl, a 7th class student of Government Senior Secondary School at Behlana here, met lawyers in the district court here on Tuesday to get a legal notice served upon the school authorities, alleging she was thrown out of the school as it “did not want the girl to ruin the atmosphere of the school.” The victim's father, a vegetable vendor, claimed that the school headmaster and the class teacher had asked him to withdraw his daughter from the school as her presence could damage the institute's reputation.
The girl was forcibly taken to Mumbai in November last year by her neighbour , who allegedly raped her. A case was registered and the neighbour was arrested in December last and sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, School headmaster Ramesh Kumar said no one was turned away from the school as it is a policy of the administration to bring all children to the institute. “The school will give all possible academic support to make up the loss of her studies due to long absence,” he said. - PTI
